Cooking Tips

  • Our Favorite Cookie Sheets

When baking cookies, the type of cookie sheet you use is important! We prefer Doughmakers brand cookies sheets with their pebbled patterned aluminum surface for even baking. You can check them out at doughmakers.com. If you like your cookies dark and crispy, you may wish to try a dark, coated cookie sheet. Go cookies!
  • Bake That Cake

When baking cakes, remember the "insert toothpick near center" suggestion - it really does matter to the batter. Its an easy and accurate test to tell if the cake is done. Also, cakes need to bake at even temperature, so be sure to leave the oven door shut for the majority of the bake time.

Grandma's Homestead Pan Buckeyes

Peanut Butter Base
  • 1 c. butter or margarine (2 sticks)
  • 1-1/2 c. peanut butter
  • 3-1/2 c. powdered sugar (we usually measure then sift flour, but sifting is optional)
Icing
  • 8 oz. milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c. peanut butter

Line 9"x13" pan with wax paper (with extra on edges to make it easy to lift out). On low heat melt butter and peanut butter. Add powdered sugar and mix. Pat into 9" x 13" pan. To make icing, melt chocolate chips and 1/2 c. peanut butter on low heat. Pour over peanut butter base. Spread evenly. Chill. Cut into 1-1/2" squares. Lift out wax paper so bars can be easily removed and served. These taste as wonderful as regular Buckeyes but can be made in minutes!

Yield: Approx. 48 Buckeyes
